There aren't a ton of restaurants in my neighborhood, so I was super excited to discover a lovely new Italian place just a block from my home! Da Claudio specializes in seasonal Italian fare, and is located at 21 Ann Street in the Financial District. The owners, Claudio and Linda Marini, previously owned the beloved neighborhood restaurant, Barbarini, until it was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Their new restaurant, Da Claudio, opened last November and serves authentic Italian cuisine in a sleek new setting. Not your typical trattoria, the decor is chic and contemporary with concrete floors, brass light fixtures, and warm leather banquettes. With a beautiful marble bar serving wine and Italian liqueurs, this is a great spot for after-work drinks or a relaxed dinner with family and friends. Keep reading to see pics of the space and learn more about this delicious new addition to the neighborhood:
Owner Claudio Marini was born in Italy, but has been a resident of the Financial District for over a decade. Developing a strong sense of community is important to him, and Da Claudio welcomes everyone in the neighborhood. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and many families come to dinner with their children in the early evening. The restaurant is open until midnight 7 days a week, so you can enjoy dinner and drinks late into the night. I am particularly excited about the deli counter where you can buy delicious meats and cheeses by the pound.
Marini prides Da Claudio on it's authenticity with the head chef hailing from Venice, and the salumieri from Sardinia. They are proud to serve humanely-raised, locally-sourced meats and fish from Upstate, NY, Brooklyn, and Long Island. While they still have a long way to go, Da Claudio is taking every little step to minimize their environmental foot print. In addition to using biodegradable take-out containers and recycled paper place mats, they make their seltzer water in house to avoid shipping heavy glass bottles from Italy.
For authentic Italian cuisine in a chic modern setting, be sure to check out Da Claudio the next time you are headed downtown!
