Sustainability and taking care of our planet is very important to me, and a couple months ago I shared this blog post about the next industrial revolution - cradle to cradle products that are environmentally responsible and create zero waste. Today I am super excited to share with you an opportunity to support a real life cradle to cradle business. The team from Life Without Plastic has created a sustainable, cradle to cradle, plastic free, zero waste lunch bag. Many insulated lunch bags on the market today are made with plastic foam that cannot be recycled. Plastic is a huge problem, and constitutes nearly 90% of all trash on the ocean's surface! To counteract this problem, Life Without Plastic is running a Kickstarter to launch this exciting new product, and you can donate through August 25th. Depending on how much money you donate, they offer lots of great freebies for your support. I pledged $30 and will get the Plastic Free Shopper Reward package which includes several organic cotton mesh produce bags, and a free digital e-booklet with tips on how to reduce waste. Keep reading to learn more about this exciting, innovative and sustainable new product.
Life Without Plastic's zero-waste lunch bag will be made with hemp or organic cotton fabric. They are collecting feedback during the Kickstarter phase of this project before finalizing the details. Be sure to let them know if you have any comments or suggestions on colors you would like to see. I suggested black or beige for a "classic" look, and something more colorful for a "fun" look. The bag is completely washable, and features an organic cotton lining that holds the insulating panels in place. The insulating panels will keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold, and are made from leftover scraps from an organic cotton mattress company - making good use of material that would otherwise go to waste. There is also space to add your own ice packs if you like.
The bag is finished with a metal zipper and snap buttons, and takes up very little space when disassembled and folded. This makes it portable and easy to travel with. The bag will come in a square or rectangular shape. If all goes well, the final product should be available by December 2017, just in time for holiday gifts!
Be sure to check out the Kickstarter and pledge your support. There are lots of great rewards, and best of all, you can feel good knowing you are investing in a new economy - a sustainable, ethical, and zero waste economy!
